News: The Clark Republican and Press 8-12-1897
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 8-12-1897 Mr. and Mrs. Willis Melville and little twin daughters, of Chicago arrived here last week to visit Mrs. Melville’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Smith. Mr. Melville has returned to Chicago. Mrs. M. will remain several weeks longer. Lute Marsh and wife, Jeff Schuster and wife, Mrs. Herman Schuster and Chas. Lee returned from Phillips Tuesday, where they have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Peters. Mrs. Lee and Miss Irma Schuster, who accompanied them, remained for a more prolonged visit. Chas. Gleuzer, treasurer of joint school district No. 1 Colby and Green Grove, has absconded with $68.40 of money belonging to the district. The bondsmen, Fred Stecker and Aug Schoeltzel will make the deficit good. Family troubles are supposed to be the cause. (Colby Phonograph) Sheriff Page arrested Frank Hungerford last week Wednesday on a warrant sworn out by his wife for desertion. Hungerford was taken to Thorp for examination, which he waived, and was bound over in $200 bonds to appear in the circuit court. Mr. Hungerford has been running a saloon near Red Wing, Minnesota for some time past. Emery Bruley has lately invented a new style of wagon spoke which he recently received letters patent on. The spoke is taken from any grade of timber, a hole is bored the entire length and a steel rod is inserted which makes a “C” grade of timer. Emery has found a gold mine of his own and he don’t have to go to Klondyke and suffer any hardships either. |
