RETURNED FROM COPPER RIVER: (LOYAL TRIBUNE) M. P. Hartford and brother Jim arrived home Monday night from the Copper River country, Alaska, the first of the party which left here in January, ’98, to return. “Mose” is looking pretty thin, for him, the hardships encountered in that country having taken better than forty pounds off from his formerly robust frame. Jim, who has been very sick for some time, looks pretty well, although still weak. Henry Chesterman came over the glacier with them to Valdez, but returned to camp. He and Ed Young will go to Quartz Creek, where they have claims which they want to develop. John Grasser left the party last fall for Forty-Mile Creek, where he hoped to strike something. Frank Smith has been at Valdez for some time, but went down the river to Sitka, where he may remain. So far nothing very promising has been found in the Copper River Country, though Mr. Hartford informs us a little coarse gold has been found.
