Mrs. M. E. Simpson, who has been quite, sick, is somewhat better.

Deputy Sheriff Jas. Connor visited the county seat on business last Friday.

Mrs. Robt. Schofield came down from Greenwood Tuesday to visit friends.

Mrs. L. a. Grown, Grace and Harold, spent Christmas with relatives at Colby.

W. H. Gilman was at Glenbeulah last week to attend the funeral of his father.

Mrs. Trumbull of Merrillan spent Christmas with her daughter, Mrs. I. J. Glass.

Miss Maggie McNamara, who teaches in Thorp, is home on vacation.

Wimm Harriman, who is attending Wayland Academy at Beaver Dam, is home on a vacation.

Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Adams started Saturday for a few days’ visit with relatives at West Rosendale, Wis.

Dr. W. R. McCutcheon, postmaster of Thorp, transacted business at the court house Friday last.

Frank McGinnis, who teaches at Lloyd’s mill, is spending a portion of his vacation with friends in this city.

Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Webster and son Thornton went to Portage Saturday to spend Christmas with relatives.

Mamie Woodward went to Eau Claire to spend the holiday vacation with Laura Bridge and other friends.

Miss Minnie Ketel, of the Deutsch-Americaner, went to Granton Saturday to spend Christmas with her mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Arch Day came up from Waukesha Monday to attend the funeral of their daughter, Mrs. J. W. Short.

Mrs. A. Alderman and son Lee went to Humbird Saturday to spend Christmas with relatives, and visit other friends.

Ira Houghton, who has been doing the finishing on H. H. Heath’s new residence, went home to Humbird Saturday.

Will Campbell came home from Chicago Thursday for a holiday respite from his studies at the Northwest University.

e. W. Sullivan the farmer and market gardner of Alma Center transacted business with Dwight Roberts on Tuesday.

Mr. Luethe lost one of his delivery horses last week. The animal while suffering from an attack of colic threw itself about striking its head against the manger fracturing the skull and gying almost instantly.

Wednesday morning as P. Johnson got up to start the fire he came face to face with a burglar at his bedroom door. The burglar backed off, and Mr. Johnson acknowledges that he did likewise. It was too dark to distinguish the intruder’s features or even his general appearance. It is supposed that he had entered through the back door which had not been locked. Nothing in the house was disturbed, but one can well imagine that it was not a pleasant experience for Mr. Johnson and his family.

Sentenced to Reformatory: On Saturday last Clyde West, who was charged with attempting to pass a forged check, plead guilty before Judge James O’Neill and was sentenced to two years in the new Reformatory at Green Bay.
