Mrs. Ro. O. Smith and her father, Mr. Chandler are preparing to go to Ludden, N. D., to join Mrs. Smith’s husband who is employed at that place.

William Jerard, Frank Storey and Mrs. Kate Storey of the town of Thorp were in Neillsville Tuesday, having business in the probate court.

The porch of the Merchants Hotel is being reshingled and other repairs about the building are being done. Charles Stevens and Hal Kemery are doing the job.

Pasteur filters have been placed in the South side school building and the pupils now drink city water R. F. Kountz, who is agent for this hygienic mechanism placed them in position.

Richard Redmond who recently sold his farm in the town of Weston, last week purchased a house from the Servaty estate on the North Side and will soon be a resident of this city.

C,. S. Stockwell has equipped a ferry boat for transporting men and “grub-stakes” across Black River down below Ross Eddy. He has timber land on the other side on which he is having wood cut.

A. J. Bibbs, representing the Crescent Directory Co. of Chicago, Ill., has secured permission to number the houses in Neillsville, and to compile a city directory. It would certainly be a great convenience to have each place numbered in describing any business place or residence or in directing strangers about the city. It would also give the town more of a metropolitan appearance. As we understand it the authority thus far granted in the matter makes the purchasing and putting up a number purely voluntary.

From Register of Deeds Chas. Cornelius’ report to the secretary of state we glean the following facts concerning land sales in Clark county from Sept. 1, 1899 to Sept. 1, 1900: No. of city and village lots sold 529. Total consideration in deeds $13,458.93, average selling price per lot $254.40, No. of acres 0, land sold $129,323, total consideration in deeds $1,267,146.57. Average price per acres $9.80. The above figures does not include land sold on land contract or for a nominal consideration. As a large amount of land is transferred in this way, this but partially shows the amount of land which has changed hands in Clark county the past year.

THORP: B. E. Luethe and C. S. Stockwell of Neillsville, were in Thorp last week.

Herman Banderob went to Eau Claire Monday returning Tuesday.

Eli Snyder went to Eau Claire Monday evening.

Mrs. McTavish and children, of Cloquest, Minn., are visiting her mother, Mrs. Bunton.

Mr. Holmes of Spencer, who has been visiting in the home of the Minard family, went home Saturday.

Mrs. Geo. A. Barry, of Eau Claire, was the guest of Mrs. Zillman a few days last week.

Ed. Heagle and wife, of Cadott, visited James Heagle and wife last week.

George Campbell, of Marshfield, was in Thorp a few days during the past week.

LOYAL Mrs. Will Whitney and son Gwin are visiting Mrs. Whitney’s mother Mrs. Gwin.

Dorr Whitney’s body was brought here from West Superior and will be buried at Dodgeville Wednesday. He is over 80 years and he has lived here for some time.

L. Chamberlain and wife are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby girl at their place Sunday.

Roy Taylor and family visited C. M. Taylor’s over Sunday.

Chas. Pickrun was pleased by having a baby girl stop at their home Sunday.

Mrs. Ed. Holmes and Mrs. A. N. Deloyly came Tuesday, to attend their father, (Mr. Whitney’s) funeral.

GREENWOOD: Joseph Gibson transacted business here last week.

W. S. Tufts, our sheriff, had business here last week.

W. F. Hood, of Fairchild, was over last week, in the interests of the N. C. Foster Lumber Co.

H. Emerson, of Loyal, was in town Saturday.

Geo. B. Parkhill came down from Thorp Monday night, expecting to take part in the Woodman Picnic exercises, the notice of postponement of that event having failed to reach him.

E. K. Sheets is receiving a visit from his mother who lives in Ohio.

For calling C. H. Clute names prohibited by statue. J. E. Voor his paid a fine of ten dollars and trimmings.

F. T. Tucker, Homer Clark and W. R. Kennedy were callers here.
