Grant Leslie Slone

Grant Leslie Slone, 48, of Morris, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24 from injuries due to an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 4, 1955, in Morris, Ill., the son of Grant Y. and Blanch (nee Miller) Slone. He graduated from Coal City High School in 1973, attended Joliet Junior College, and graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., with a degree in criminal justice.

He was employed as a pressman for the Morris Daily Herald and since July 1, 1979 had been employed with Bailey Printing and Publishing as a pressman in Coal City, Ill. He was one of the founding members of Morris Theatre Guild in Morris, Ill. He was a member of the Prairie Singers and was formerly associated with Joliet Junior College Chorale and Theatre. He loved fishing, boating, and being with his family.

Grant was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morris, Ill. where he was active in the church chorus and dramas. He also was a member of the church softball team.

He is survived by his parents Grant Y. and Blanch Slone, Streator, Ill.; three sisters, Kathleen (Rev. Richard) Hutchison, Frederic, Wis., Mary (Randall) Maynard, Streator, Ill., Ruth Slone, Streator, Ill.; two brothers, Daniel (Joy) Slone, Streator, Ill., and Richard (Anita) Slone, Neillsville, Wis.; two nieces, four nephews, and four great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services were held Friday Sept. 26, 2003, at 5:30 p.m. at U.C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home, Ltd. in Morris, Ill. with Rev. Tom Ostrander officiating. Graveside services were Saturday, Sept. 27 at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Memorial gifts can be directed to First United Methodist Church, Prairie Singers, or Coal City Emergency Squad.
