10 Years Ago, May 14, 1992 Susan Somner, director of the D. R. Moon Memorial Library, was a presenter at an annual Children's Services Workshop on April 21 at Faith Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake.

25 Years Ago, May 12, 1977 Retiring from the Stanley Fire Department on May 1 were Paul Zais, Jack Kolstad and Lloyd Berseth.

40 Years Ago, May 17, 1962 The Rev. Cecil A. Ward, pastor of the Stanley Methodist Church for the past eight and a half years, will preach his farewell sermon here May 20. Rev. and Mrs. Ward will leave Stanley May 22 to return to their native England.

A bolt of lightening caused considerable damage early Sunday morning at the Martin Johnson farm southeast of Stanley in Worden Township. The bolt struck at 5:10 a.m. during the height of the rainstorm, killing two Holstein cows and a heifer, and injuring another cow and a heifer. The lightening struck the barn first, then followed the electric wiring to the house. All the wiring in both buildings was burned out. The lightning also damaged the milkhouse, taking out one corner of the building and ruining the milk cooling tank. It also punched holes in the barn, one on each end. In the house, several appliances were ruined.

50 Years Ago, May 15, 1952 Delores Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schneider, won first place in a commercial contest sponsored by Spencerian Business College of Milwaukee. She entered the Shorthand division of the contest. Her prize was a Remington Portable Typewriter. Her sister, Dorothy, was second place winne rin this contest, and was awarded a gold wristwatch.

60 Years Ago, May 15, 1942 Dining car service on Trains One and Two of the Soo Line was to be restored yesterday. The service was suspended several years ago. This indicates an increase in the use of the trains by people who have to travel.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this weekend.

70 Years Ago, May 13, 1932 No district school board can pay a teacher less than $75 per month under the present law.

Stanley High School will graduate 46 students on June 3.

100 Years Ago, May 17, 1902 The planting of about 200 ornamental trees in the public park was completed under the direction of Hans Berg. The trees planted are mostly elm, hackberry, maple, linden and a few evergreens.
