The Clark County Press: William Edgar Benedict died Thursday, August 21, at his home in the Town of York. He was town clerk in York for 23 years, and had served as assessor. In his earlier years he taught school. Mr. Benedict was born to Sanford and Margaret Benedict November 16,1879. On May 6, 1903, he was married to Susie Davis at Loyal. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Leo (Lulu) Kronberger, Mrs. Frank (Neva) Lulloff, Nyle and Morvin, a daughter, Marie, preceded him in death, also his wife, who died in January, 1948. Besides his immediate family he leaves a sister, Mrs. Belle Smith, and a brother, Rollie; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was a member of the York Methodist church, where he joined in 1889. Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Davis of Wilmer, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Merton Davis, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Ed Davis of Fort Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith of Racine.

The Loyal Tribune: Funeral services for William Benedict, 72, who died at his home in the township of York early Thursday forenoon August 21, were held in the York Center Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Lee Holmes officiated. William Benedict was born in the Town of York, Nov. 16, 1879. As a young man he taught in the rural schools of Clark County. He was married to Susie Davis, May 6, 1903. For about 20 years he was in the mercantile business a York Center. In 1919 he moved to his father's farm, which later he purchased. He lived on this farm until his death, this being the same farm on which he was born. He joined the York Center Methodist Church in 1889, having kept membership in the same church for over 60 years. Grandsons served as pall-bearers. They were Wayne Kronberger, Robert Lulloff, Ivan Kronberger, Robert Prior, Norbert Lavey and Donald Benedict. Ruth Garbisch, David Lavey, Rueben Garbisch and Frank Dubes sang "No Night There," "Have Thine Own Way Lord," and "Crossing the Bar." Ruth Garbisch was pianist for the recessional. He is survived by two daughters Mrs. Leo (Lulu)Kronberger, Neillsville, and Mrs. Frank (Neva) Lulloff, Loyal, and two sons, Nyle Benedict and Morvin Benedict, Loyal. Mrs. Benedict died about five years ago and one daughter preceded her father in death. There are 14 grandchildren surviving, also one sister, Mrs. Belle Smith, and one brother, Rollie Benedict. One brother preceded Mr. Benedict in death. Those from away who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Gene Smith and son Jimmy, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Merton Davis, Gary, Indiana; Dr. and Mrs. Jesse Davis, Willmer, Minn.; Ed Davis, Fort Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mortimer, Neillsville; and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kronberger and children, Marshfield.
