TRANSCRIBED TEXT:

Last Saturday the people were greatly shocked when they heard that Chester Quackenbus had committed suicide by taking carbolic acid. Some of the neighbors saw him walking over his fields at about ten o'clock a.m. and at about 12 o'clock he was found lying on his bed in an unconscious state, and died shortly after. Medical aid was summoned but he was beyond the aid of human skill. The acid had done the work it was intended it should do. It is the general belief of the people that he done the act while being discouraged. For several years past he has been partly deranged and his mind would wander at times. No right clue was found why he committed the deed, he left a will, written by himself, however that his property should go to his brother, David, who resides at Plymouth, this state. He lived alone and all the evidence that could be found goes to show that the deed was done in a fit of discouragement. He leaves a father and three brothers who survive him, and reside at Colby, Plymouth and St. Cloud. David arrived Monday. The funeral took place Monday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the York Center Cemetery, Rev. E. L. Jacqulish conducting the services in the M.E. Church. Deceased was about 48 years of age and quite well to do.
