10 Years Ago, Feb. 11, 1993 Jim and Shirley Helleckson of Wanamingo, Minn., recently announced their purchase of the former Stanwood Building, from Dave Haas and Sons of Thorp. Right now, the Helleckson’s are in the process of moving their company, Paul Bunyan Lumber, Ltd., into the building, located at 711 N. Broadway Street.

25 Years Ago, Feb. 9, 1978 Freckles, the three-year-old, black and white cockapoo pet of the Donald Manley family became a heroine to the family early last Wednesday morning when she alerted them that their home was on fire.

40 Years Ago, Feb. 14, 1963 A Minnesota Company, United Building Centers, Inc., has purchased the O & N Lumber Co., Menomonie, according to an announcement made last week. O & N, which owns 25 lumber yards in west central Wisconsin, will continue as a separate and wholly owned subsidiary of UBC. In this area, the company has yards at Stanley, Cadott, Owen and Thorp.

50 Years Ago, Feb. 12, 1953 According to word received last week from C. C. Cox, purchaser of the Stanley Luggage Company, long range plans are for continuation of the Stanley Luggage Company and for the operation of the plant as a self-sustaining unit.

In view of the discontinuance of the noon passenger trains after Feb. 15, the Postal Service expects to put into effect a star route mail service between Owen and Eau Claire on Feb. 16.

The Strovers Implement Company is expanding its services to agricultural users and service shops in the Stanley area with an addition to its selling line consisting of the Lincoln line of arc welding equipment, electrodes and other welding supplies.

60 Years Ago, Feb. 12, 1943 The Office of Price Administration again cut the coffee ration last weekend, to one pound per six weeks per person over 15 years of age. The ration hitherto had been one pound for five weeks.

The Stanley High School, through its department of vocational agriculture, under the direction of B.R. Dugdale, is reaching beyond the class room to aid farmers in attaining wartime food production goals by offering courses in care and repair of farm machinery and equipment that is so badly needed in the production of essential foods in winning the war.

Looking Backwards, from the Stanley Republican, Thursday Feb. 13, 2003, Page 8 70 Years Ago, Feb. 10, 1933 Without any other ceremony than the congratulations of their relatives, neighbors and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilcox observed the 67th anniversary of their wedding on Feb. 5th. Mrs. Wilcox, whose maiden name was Angeline Miranda Perkins, is 87 years of age, while Mr. Wilcox is 94. Both are in good health and full possession of their faculties. Mr. Wilcox is Stanley's only surviving veteran of the Civil War.

100 Years Ago, February 14, 1903 W. J. Frank, dentist, will be in Stanley on Tuesday of each week. His office will be held over Cohen’s store.
