John William Babler, only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Babler of this village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.), was born Jan. 22, 1885 at Mt. Pleasant Green Co., Wis. When a boy, he moved with his parents to Disco, in the early 1890's, and eleven years ago came here with the family, where the years of his youth and early manhood were spent. On his twenty-second birthday, Jan. 22, 1907, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Bemish of the town of Cleveland, Jackson Co.

Soon after their marriage, Mr. Babler became interested in the Panhandle lands in Texas and moved to that state, where they remained three years. They then returned to Humbird and rented his father's farm adjoining the village. A year ago Mr. Babler left this large farm and rented Jacob Repplinger's west of town. He had purchased a farm five miles from Osseo and had just moved onto it, when his death occurred suddenly at about nine o'clock Saturday forenoon, April 18, 1914, heart failure being the direct cause. Mr. Babler was 29 years, 2 months and 26 days of age.

The remains were brought to the home of his parents in this village Monday, and Wednesday afternoon funeral services were held at the German Reformed Church, conducted by Rev. H. G. Schmid, who delivered two addresses, the first being in German, followed by one in the English language. The church was filled with a large congregation who had gathered to express their sympathies to the sorrowing relatives of the deceased. The business places of the village were closed during the hour of the funeral service. Many floral emblems were placed about the altar of the church and on the casket as a token of respect and of sympathy with those who mourn. The interment was made in the Mentor Cemetery. There are left to mourn his death his wife and four small children, his parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Bottineau, N. D., and Miss Mae of Humbird.

Among the relatives present at the funeral were Chris Babler of Minneapolis; David and John Zimmerman of Waseca, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Wilson of Owatonna, Minn.; Charles Lueck of Idaho; Albert Babler, wife and daughter of Monroe; Mrs. Fred Knobel, Monticello; Mrs. David Hafty of New Glarus. A number of friends from Neillsville were also present.
