Dignin died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Hart, at about three o'clock Wednesday morning. He had been ill for several weeks with rheumatism, had nearly recovered and was about town for a day or two and then suffered a relapse. For a week his condition was critical, some days a trifle better, others worse, he lingered, suffering much pain, until death relieved him. Mr. Dignin was conscious except when given opiates to relieve his pain, and his last hope was that he might live until his son Cullen arrived home. Cullen, who is in the army. Landed at New York last Thursday. William Sidney Dignin was born in Calumet Co., Wis., on Sept. 26, 1864. At the age of eighteen years he moved to Merrillan and in 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Adams, who preceded him in death , June 15, 1905. There home was made on different farms in this vicinity (Humbird, Clark county, Wis.) for a number of years, and also in Minnesota. He was of a jovial, pleasant disposition, mingling with young and old alike and scattering sunshine wherever his lot was cast. Mr. Dignin was a member of the Catholic Church. Burial services will be held Friday morning at the home and interment will be in the Mentor Cemetery. Immediate family surviving are three sons and one daughter, James, Jerome, Cullen, and Mrs. Roy Hart, all of this village. Deceased was fifty-four years, eight months and two days of age. |
