--------- Jones, Samuel H. (25 JAN 1845 - 27 SEP 1919)

Samuel Henry Jones was born at Earlville, N.Y., a son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel W. Jones, early settlers of that village, on Jan. 25, 1845. His death occurred at the home of Homer Beede in Merrillan about eight o'clock Saturday morning, Sept. 27, 1919, from a complication of diseases, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 2 days.

The remains were brought to this village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) and taken to M. Kretschmer's undertaking rooms. Funeral services were held at the Masonic temple Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. D. Upson of Merrillan, and were attended by many old neighbors and friends of the deceased. Burial was in the cemetery at Houghtonburg with Masonic rites. He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge.

For fifty years or more Mr. Jones had been a resident of the vicinity, making the farm south of town his home for the past forty years. As a young man he engaged in the lumbering business, operating saw mills for several years. On Christmas Day, 1874, he was united in marriage with Miss Ada V. Cotton of Garden Valley. To them was born one son, Durward, who was drowned while the family was living in the state of Washington in 1901. Mrs. Jones died on July 15, 1914, and since her taking away Mr. Jones has lived alone on the farm, excepting a time he spent at the home of A. D. Wilson at Chippewa Falls. Last winter he made a trip back to the old home in New York State, and spent a number of enjoyable months with his two brothers and sister, David W. and Adelbert Jones, whose homes are at Auburn, and Mrs. Emma Nichols of East Orange, N.J. The two brothers and the sister are the surviving members of a family of twelve children. Mr. Jones leaves no near relatives in this vicinity. Those from away who were here to attend the funeral services were D. M. McCormick, Homer Beede, Merrillan, A. D. Wilson, Chippewa Falls, T. M. Hobbs, Iron River.
