Samuel B. Calway was born in Canada, of an old English family, identified with large interests in Canada. He married Catherine Rainey, a native of Maine, of Scotch ancestry. They came to Neillsville June 19, 1869, and have since continued to reside here. They are the parents of five children. For many years Mr. Calway was identified with the lumbering industry in the county as a scaler, having scaled between 150,000,00 and 200,000,000 feet of the pine which was cut in the southern part of the county.
