Angus John Lamont and Almira Gault
Angus Almira were married in September, 1864 in Goblesville, Michigan. In 1865 Angus began in the lumber business in the Green Bay area. In 1873 1874 he moved the entire family to the Colby area. They settled about 2 1/2 miles south of Colby in Clark County and spent the next 20 years logging and operating the mill, known as "Lamontsville." In 1894 they sold the business and went into farming. The city of Colby actually bought the land for $400 to use it for the location of the new electric utility waterworks plant. Angus J. died 10/25/1910 in Colby, Wis. His wife, Almira Gault was born in Greece, NY on 9/20/1847, she died in 1915.


The children of Angus Almira were:
John F. Lamont - (b. 6/1/1867) married Jessie Young
Deputy US Marshall / Marathon County Supt. of Schools / Wausau Mayor 1908-1912 / Lawyer
William D. Lamont - (b. 1874) married Mary Edwards
Farmer and later in the lumber business
Effie Lamont - (b. 1875 in Pensaukee, Wis. - d. abt. 1920)
Married to Howard F. Wicker and moved to Wausau. they had 3 children James Angus Wicker, Howard Wicker Jr., and Donald Wicker.


Ella Lamont - Married TH Patterson who was in the lumber business
Charles Lamont - A farmer and store owner in Unity, Wis.
(Ella Charles were twins b. 3/7/1876)
Anne Lamont - (b. 1878 - d. 1964)
Married Dennis Sullivan who worked for the Railroad
Ronald Lamont - (b. 1880 - d. abt. 1941) married Mabel Varney
A teacher, he moved to Montana
Angus E. Lamont - (b. 2/22/1882 - d. 8/5/1963)
Worked on the RR until 1919, then farmed the original Lamont homestead known as Lamont's Hill. Angus E. graduated from High School in 1898 married Kathryn Riplinger and they settled in Colby, where 2 of his sons (Angus III Malcolm) still reside. A third son, Donald, died in infancy. He also had a daughter, Katherine Mary Lamont that married Bert C. Cattanach. She resides in Owen, Clark County, Wis.
Earl Lamont - (b. 6/25/1884 - d. 3/4/1950) married Agnes McNeight
Worked for the RR and had a garage in the Unity area, later moved to Columbus Grove, Ohio
Angus John Lamont was born in 1842 on Prince Edward Island,Canada. His father, John Lamont, was from Glasgow, Scotland -- where the family was likely a member of the Lamont Clan. These family clans are prevalent throughout Scotland and the Lamonts were part of some terrible battles with the Campbell Clans. It is unknown, at this time, if any of John''s ancestors directly participated in any of these territorial battles. John his wife had 6 children immigrating to PEI, Canada prior to 1842. Angus J. was born on PEI and 3 others were born in Wingham, Ontario, Canada. Whitechurch, Ontario, Canada (about 140 miles NW of Detroit, MI) is where the family settled.
