Contributed by Sandra Burrows

Nelson Cornelius DeYoung was born Nov 1883 in Holland and died 1968 in Cottage Grove, Lane, Oregon.  He was the son of Johannes & Mary DeYoung and October 18, 1911, he married Elsie Maud Stoneburg who was the daughter of Wilbert "Bert" and Mary Caroline Mathison.

Nelson and Elsie's son, Lloyd Arthur DeYoung was born May 15, 1912 in Loyal, Clark, Wisconsin and died January 20, 1977 in Cottage Grove, Fir twp., Lane, Oregon.

The photo to the left is Lloyd DeYoung in 1927 when he and his parents, Nelson and Elsie Stoneburg DeYoung, were visiting the Bert Stoneburg farm in Greenwood, Clark Co., WI.  The farm house is in the background and the car Lloyd is driving belonged to Bert.

Nelson and Elsie left Wisconsin and first went to Coos Bay where Grandpa had family and they left there and went to Cottage Grove in the 1920's where they lived the rest of their lives. They operated a confectionary store, a card room, a bottling works and finally an auto parts store which was eventually run by their son after Nelson retired.  It was then sold a few years later.
