Joseph Alonzo & Henrietta (Ellis) Jaynes/Janes Sherwood, Clark Co., Wisconsin Contributed by Crystal Wendt & The Clark Co., WI History Buffs
Joseph A. and Henrietta (Ellis) Janes (sometimes spelled Jaynes) were farmers who resided in section 24 of Sherwood Forest Township (later shortened to Sherwood), Clark Co., Wisconsin. Joseph was born in 1845 in Pennsylvania and she was born Jan. 17, 1852 in New York State as were her parents.
Joseph enlisted at Eagle Point, Wisconsin and fought for the union during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company E of Wisconsin's 7th Infantry.
For many years, Mr. Janes drove the stage on the mail line which ran through Shortville to Nevins. He was active in county affairs and one of the most respected pioneers of Sherwood township. When he died January 22, 1914, his funeral was held just two days later in Granton, Wisconsin and he was laid to rest in the Sherwood township cemetery. Henrietta died twenty years later, September 9, 1934, and buried beside him.
While living in Wisconsin, they became the parents of Edward L. (b. 1872); Henrietta "Nellie" (b. 6 Nov. 1874-d. 30 Aug. 1943); Sarah M. (b. 1877) & David F. (b. 1879); Flora (b. 21 Feb. 1884 - 13 Jan. 1944)
Edward L. Janes married Ida M. Wedde, Nov. 7, 1895 in Portage, WI.
David Janes married Sylvia Sparks (b. 10 Sep 1888, d. 13 Apr 1921) in Sherwood, Clark, WI about 1909. Sylvia Sparks Janes is buried in the Sherwood Cemetery.
May 31, 1893, Henrietta Janes married Fredrick W. Ziemendorf (b. 27 Mar, d. 28 Jun 1937), the son of Frederick & Augusta (Riemer) Ziemendorf in Sherwood, Clark, Wisconsin.

Jennie May Jaynes b. 1868, Black Brook, Polk, WI to David Jaynes and Sarah Teachart. Jennie's possible sister is Ida Jaynes, b 1858(?). There was a Teachart family in South Bend, Indiana in 1870.
