James D. Chapman was born July 5, 1824 in
New York and died on his eighty-eighth birthday in 1912 at the home of his
nephew, Ira Shubal Chapman and is buried in the Thorp Village Cemetery in Clark
Co., Wisconsin. He fought in the Civil War with Co. K of the 6th Iowa
Infantry and in the Mexican War.
