John Tyler & Margrietta Louisa (Wayne) Foust Greenwood, Clark Co., Wisconsin
John was born 5 Mar 1841, in Randolph Co., IN, the son of John Almarion Tyler and Elizabeth (Loy) Foust. His mother was born in Campbell Co. (now Union), TN. The family had moved to WI in the early 1860s and called Shullsburg their home. John spent his 24th birthday in the state of his mother’s birth doing guard duty with Co. H of the 44th Wis. Inf. He served under Capt. Levi Houts, a 38 yr. old school teacher from Orion, WI. Four days later his regt. left Nashville to escort prisoners from Eastport, MS, but returned to TN without them because they hadn’t been delivered to the relay location. April 3rd he left for picket duty in Paducah, KY until 9 Aug 1865 when he was mustered out. Just before his 25th birthday he married Margrietta “Louisa” (Aug 1846, WI) in Boydtown, WI, 15 Feb 1866. Her older sister, Catherine married Zephaniah Silvers who’d also fought for the Union. Their parents, William and Mary Wayne, were from the Bluegrass State which had become familiar ground to John during the Civil War. The Waynes lived in Prairie Du Chien, WI. To their joy all 10 of Louisa and John’s children were also born in Crawford Co., WI: Cyrena E. “Rena” (Feb 1867, m. Edward D. Daugherty, 4 Feb 1885, Marietta WI); Altha M. & Weltha L. Leila Alvina Lloyd, 26 Oct 1899, Loyal); Estella I. (15 Feb 1876, d. 15 Jan 1967, m. Dwelly P. Bush, 30 Nov 1895, Marietta WI); John Allen (Jan 1880, m. 1903 Polly Foster, d. 27 Mar 1942); Wallace B. (2 Oct 1882, d. 26 Sep 1915 in Marietta, WI); Mary I. (19 Sep 1885, d. 16 Mar 1888, Marietta WI); and Chester Z., (21 Jul 1889, d. Mar 1964). John’s father moved to Warner twp. from Black River Falls in 1908 and rented the old “Yankee Farm.” John Jr. and Louisa were already living in Longwood, WI and he was active in the Greenwood G.A.R., serving as an officer as early as 1906. John Jr. died 17 Apr 1917 and Louisa passed away that same year. Both of them are buried in the Boydtown Cemetery. Census Records

He was married 44 years and his wife, Margaret was 64 years old and born in Wisconsin. Her parents were born in Ohio and Illinois. Their son, George, was a 36 year old widow who was born in Wisconsin. Their son, Chester, was 20 years old and also born in Wisconsin.

May 22, 1906: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Daugherty visited her parents (Mr. and Mrs. Foust or Faust), who are living on the John Sanford place Sunday. The funeral service in memory of Mrs. Louisa Silver whose death was mentioned last week, occurred Thursday afternoon from the home in Braun Settlement, Rev. J. T. Hutton of this city preaching the service. A large attendance of relatives and friends was present and there was an appropriate display of flowers. Interment took place in the Braun Settlement cemetery.
Louisa Foust, as deceased was known before her marriage to Zeph. Silvers, was born in 1834. She moved with her family to this county about five years ago, coming from Crawford county.
