Dr. Herman "Richard" & Bethel Bliss (Barkley) Schwarze

Greenwood, Warner Twp., Clark County, Wisconsin

 

Dr. Herman Richard Schwarze, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Schwarze of Greenwood, was born in the Town of Warner, May 21, 1881, and was confirmed April 12, 1896.

He spent his youth on the home farm and later learned the profession of veterinarian, graduating from the veterinary college at Kansas City, MO, in 1903. He then enlisted for service in the Philippines where he remained for three years, going from there to Chicago where he remained for two years taking postgraduate work. In 1909 he went to Springfield, Ill. where he practiced for eight years. He also practiced his profession at Champaign, Ill., St. Louis, MO. and for the past eight years has been in East St. Louis, Ill where he was engaged in the manufacture of serums.

On September 29, 1909, he was united in marriage to Bethel Bliss Barkley. Dr. Schwarze was instantly killed in an auto accident at Monticello, Ill., Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 1932. Just a few weeks before his death he and his wife spent a week in Greenwood, Wisconsin visiting relatives and friends. He was well liked and had a wide acquaintance throughout several states.  Both he and Bethel are buried in the Greenwood City Cemetery.

Justice & Hartson's Store

This firm, consisting of David Justice and Henry Hartson, commenced in the hardware business in Greenwood, Wisconsin, three years ago. Mr. Justice is a native of New York. He came to Wisconsin as early as 1859, and to Clark County in 1885. He has been a resident of Greenwood only since 1887. The junior member of the firm, Mr. Hartson, is a native of Adams Co., Wis. Came to Clark county in 1872. He taught school in this county for a few years, and was one of the firm of Harson Bros., who ran the Neillsville and Withee stage line for a few years. He, together with his partner, has been engaged exclusively in the hardware business since 1887. They have a large stock of hardware and have a good trade.
