James & Lorian Adella (Hinkley) Jefferson Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin
James was born 6 Feb 1844, in Canada, the son of John & Hannah (McCamb) Jefferson who farmed in Monroe, Adams, WI after immigrating to the United States from Downie, Perth Co., Ontario in 1856. Their children were: William, John, James, Eleanor, George, Mary Ann and Elias. James fought as a Pvt. with Co K, 38th WI Inf. from 17 Aug 1864 through 2 Jun 1865. At the time of his enlistment, he was living in Sugar Creek, WI. He suffered a hearing loss from the war. James married Lorian Adella Hinkley, daughter of Charles Gale & Pamelia A. (Comstock) Hinkley, on 4 Jul 1868. Their children were: Gertrude Imogene (b. Nov 1869; m. DeWitt Elwood), Lorian Pamelia (b. Oct 1872), James Edgar (b. Jul 1877; m. (1) Susie Eliza Wilbur, d. 1912; m. (2) Bertha M. Moore) and Harry Asbury (b. Oct 1880; m. Jeanette Joyce). He was a minister at the Greenwood, WI Methodist Church (1889-1891). While living in Greenwood, we assume he was a member of the John A. Eaton G.A.R. Post #213, since it was established in 1885. He served as minister in many WI towns, including Gratiot, Patch Grove, De Soto, Dunn and Richwood. His son Harry became a physician, and both of his daughters graduated from Lawrence College, Appleton, WI. James died 26 Jul 1917 and was buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo, WI, sec. K, with GAR signified. Lorian Adella was living in Flint, MI with the family of her son Harry when she passed away 13 Aug 1930. She was buried beside her husband.
