Caleb & Martha Jane (Andrews) Edmonds

Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin

 

 

Caleb homesteaded the East 1/2 of the North East parcel in section 11, Eaton Township.  He was a farmer who was born 20 Oct 1808 in Canada, the son of Solomon and Elizabeth (Haskins) Edmonds.  In 1836, he married "Jane", the daughter of Elkany and Elizabeth Andrews who was also Canadian born, 24 Nov 1816.  They settled in Clark County in 1866.  They had 9 children.  Among them were: Dorcas Elizabeth (b. 12 May 1838 in Canada), James E. (b. Nov 1840 in Canada), Harriet Emma (b. 1851 in Canada), Rebecca C. (b. 5 Mar 1842 in Canada), Mary E. (b. 9 Jul 1848 Kilmarnock, Ontario, Canada, m. Tim Loft, d. 29 Jan 1924 Madison, WI, buried in Greenwood, WI),  Julia (b. 1853 in Canada), and Walter D. (b. Nov 1855).

 

The Edmonds were charter members of the first Methodist Church of Greenwood, along with Case and Charlotte Honeywell, John and Mary Honeywell, Stephen Andrews, Hattie Andrews, Charles and Mrs. Carpenter, John and Mrs. Hannah Bowerman, Miss Lydia Bowerman, and Lorinda Andrews.

 

Caleb died 28 Jun 1880.  After 24 years of blindness, Jane died 16 Oct 1902.  Both of them are buried in the Greenwood, WI City Cemetery.
