Rudyard K. Brothers (1914-1999)


Former Gilman area resident Rudyard K. Brothers, 85, Marshfield, died Saturday, Sept. 4 at his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Hansen Funeral Chapel in Marshfield, with Rev. Dean Pingel of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hewitt officiating. Military rites were conducted by VFW Post No. 1866 and Masonic rites were conducted by FAM Lodge 223. Burial will take place in Pomeroy, Iowa.


Rudyard Brothers was born February 23, 1914 at Wheeler to the late Jesse C. and Agnes C. (Murray) Brothers. His marriage to Beulah Irene Johnson, who died in September 1994, took place in 1950 at Minneapolis.


He received his education in Polly and Gilman Schools, graduating from Gilman High School. He then served in the US Army for three years. During WWII, he worked in defense plants in California as an inspector of blue prints. He later moved to Minneapolis and worked as a blueprints inspector for a machine company until his retirement. He was an avid chess and checkers player.


He moved to Marshfield in 1998 and became a resident of Purdy Retirement Community. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and the following Masonic organizations: Life Member of Masonic Council 2 in Minneapolis, where he received the Degree of Super Excellent Master and the Degree of Illustrious Master Mason Plymouth Lodge No. 160 of Crystal, Minn. Masonic Lake Harriett Lodge No. 277 Zuhrah York Rite Crusaders of Minneapolis Commandery No. Zion 002 Knights Templar Knights of the York Cross of Honour Priory No. 24 Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Minnesota Grand Council Cryptic Masons Minneapolis Council No. 2 Columbian Chapter No. 60 Royal Arch Masons of Minneapolis Educational Lodge 1002AF and AM Knights Companion St. Olaf Conclave of Mankato, Minn. Scottish Rite of Freemasonry SJ USA Valley of the Orient of Minneapolis Masonic Postal Chess Club and Order of the Eastern Star Robbinsdale Chapter 238 and Lake Harriet Chapter 202.


Survivors include one daughter two brothers, Alfred (Alberta) of Clovis, Calif., and James D. (Deloris) of Camano Island, Wash. and three sisters, Eleanor Larmon of Marshfield, Rosalind (Earl) Chubb of Granton, Clark County and Carol (Frank) Bartlett of Springville, Calif.


He was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin, Calvin and Woodrow W. and two sisters, Priscilla Brothers and Griselda Pederson
