Helen Cronk (1914 - 2000)


Helen B. Cronk, 85, Colby, died Thursday, Jan. 20 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville with Rev. James Babler officiating. Burial took place at Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Stetsonville. Pallbearers were Donald and Robert Jakel, Herman Messmann, Jr., Sonny Pickreign, Wayne Baumann, and Art Ludwig.


Hemer Funeral Home in Medford assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Helen Baumann was born on March 21, 1914 at Medford to the late George and Katherine (Arndt) Baumann. She received her education at Medford area schools.


Her marriage to James E. Cronk, who died October 2, 1982, took place on February 18, 1933 at Oregon, Ill. After her education she moved to Rochelle, Ill. where she was employed at The Spinner, a yarn company. In 1944 they moved to Medford and a short time later settled on a farm in the Town of Little Black. During this time, she worked as a cook at the Liberty School and later she commuted to an electronics company in Lombard, Ill. She was also employed at Streckert Manufacturing in Abbotsford and she retired from Hurd Millwork in the 1970s. In 1994 she moved to Colby.


She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.


Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie (Vincent) Jakel, Spencer one sister, Ella Messmann, Medford eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald in 1993 two sisters, Kate and Freida and three brothers, George, Henry and Bill.
