OBITUARY OF MRS. HENRY GEMMEKE

Mrs. Henry Gemmeke, formerly Bertha Decker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Decker, was born on the West Side in the German Settlement, Jan. 18, 1873. She resided there with her parents until July 22, 1896, when she was united in marriage to Henry Gemmeke.

Mr. and Mrs. Gemmeke moved onto a wild piece of land four miles west of Greenwood, Clark County. At that time there were no roads leading to the place. They lived there all this time and out of the wilderness they made one of the finest farms on the West Side. To this union were born six children, the oldest died in infancy.

Mrs. Gemmeke died at the home of her daughter, Tuesday Jan. 17, 1928, having reach the age of 55 years. Those who remain to mourn her death are her husband and the following children: George, Alma, Oscar, Clarence and Eddie. Besides these she is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Louis Kraatz of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Ed Geisler of the Town of Warner and five brothers, August of Chilton, Herman of Ladysmith and Henry, Otto and Ferdinand of the town of Warner. Many other relatives and a large number of friends also mourn her loss.

Deceased was a kind and loving mother and wife and had always been a hard working woman.

Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Reformed Church on the West Side, Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. Vriesen officiating. The body was laid to rest in the West Side Cemetery.
