Charles A. Mesiar, 67, Chippewa Falls, Town of Hallie, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Lakeside South Nursing and Rehabilitation, Chippewa Falls, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.


He was born April 30, 1931, in Donald, to Frances (Horvat) and Andrew Mesiar. He attended schools in Donald and Hannibal. He was then employed at Johns-Manville in Waukegan, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Virginia R. Bogumill on December 26, 1953, in Gilman. He was employed at Johnson Motors in Waukegan and then at the Chevrolet plant in Janesville. He and his wife owned and operated a resort on Rooney Lake near Spooner. In 1968, they bought Gunderson Vault Company in the Town of Hallie. They expanded the business as Chippewa Burial Vaults and owned and operated it for 29 years, until retiring in June, 1997.


Survivors include his wife, Virginia two daughters: Andrea (Jim) Baldeshwiler of Chippewa Falls and Donna (Greg) Dierauer of Menomonie two sons: Keith Mesiar of Eau Claire and David (Riki) Mesiar of Anchorage, Alaska grandchildren: Paul, Gregg, Mark, Scott, Kyle, Ryan, Trevin, Lexi, Kevin, and Carrie four sisters: Mary (Pete) Gallick of Gilman, Marge Peterson of Skokie, IL, Sophie (Bill) Washburn of Dublin, CA, Liz (Ron) Marshall of Elgin, IL and one brother, George (Eunice) Mesiar of Hatley. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers and sisters.


Funeral services were held 1:40 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 1999 at Hallie United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tim Vanden Langenberg and Rev. Richard Estrem-Fuller officiating. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Town of Hallie.
