Nichols, Harry (1908 - 1999)

Harry Harold Nichols, 90, of Stanley, WI, died Friday, March 26, 1999 at Oakbrook Manor Nursing Home, Thorp.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley with Pastor Matthew Miklasz officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. till the time of service.

Harry was born in Knapp, WI on October 13, 1908 the son of Frank and Hannah Nichols. The family moved to Gilman, WI when he was a young boy and then to Stanley where he grew up and attended area schools. He served in the U.S. Army, Air Corp. during WWII from 1942 to 1945 serving in Normandy, (Battle of the Bulge) Northern France, Rhineland Y Central Europe, receiving Good Conduct Medal, European, African and Middle East Service Medal and 4 overseas bars. After the service he returned and married Genevieve Baron on April 14, 1948 in Stanley. For a time he was in partnership with his brother-in-law Glen Williger owning and operating Glen and Harry's Texaco Station. He later went to work for the Stanley Corporation until his retirement in 1974. Harry loved hunting, fishing, gardening and especially his family. Also he came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in later years.

He is survived by his wife, Gen of Stanley, WI two sons: Harry Robert (Peggy) of Thorp, WI, Mike (Becky) of Stanley, WI three daughters: Linda (Herbert) Mathwig of Oak Forest, IL, Barbara (Clair) Lewallen of Stanley, WI, Colleen (Henry) Nowobielski of Thorp, WI 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren two sisters: Lois Willger of Stanley, WI, Margaret Garsow of Eau Claire, WI and one brother, Alfred (Angeline) Nichols of Gilman, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson David Lewallen, 2 brothers: Charles and Russell Nichols and 2 sisters: Mae Kondrashuk and Clara Goebel.
