OBITUARY OF HENRY JOHNSON SKOGSTAD

Henry Johnson Skogstad was born in Norway, April 4, 1853. In 1866 he came to America and resided in Dane County a few years, coming to Greenwood, Clark County, in 1870. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Hendrickson in 1884. One son was born to this union. Mrs. Johnson preceded her husband in death three years ago.

Deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of Greenwood and opened the first barber shop of this city in 1880, since which time he followed this trade. During his life here he held various city offices and was clerk of the local M.W.A. Loodge for over twenty years.
He was an honest and industrious worker, a good citizen and neighbor and a kind and loving husband and father.

Mr. Johnson left Greenwood a few weeks ago to take up his home with his brother, Gus Skogstad at Eleva. He was in poor health at the time he left here, but thought that a good rest would bring him out alright and that he would then again return home. But this was not to be as the death angel called him from this world on Tuesday, May 13, 1924.

He is survived by his only son, Bennie Johnson of Kenosha, Wis., two grand-children, three brothers, two sisters and other relatives besides many intimate friends.

The body was brought to Greenwood for burial. Funeral services were held from the United Lutheran Church last Friday afternoon. Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery. Rev. M. K. Aaberg officated and the local M.W.A. Camp attended the services in a body. A number of Woodmen of Loyal were also present.

The following out of town relatives were here to attend the funeral Mrs and Mrs. Bennie Johnson and son of Kenosha Mr. and Mrs. Gus Skogstad and John Skogstad of Eleva Matt, Chris Bennie and Erwin Skogstad of Blair Melvin Skogstad of Osseo and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hendrickson, Mrs. Edgar and Mrs. A. Hendrickson of Ladysmith.
