MARSHFIELD NEWS HERALD 2/19/1937

GEORGE BISHOP RITES HELD AT GREENWOOD
MASONIC SERVICES CONDUCTED FOR BUSINESS LEADER

Greenwood--
Funeral rites were conducted at the M. E. Church her on Friday, Feb. 12 for George W. Bishop, pioneer resident of Greenwood, Clark County, who died on Feb. 7, 1937. The Rev. George W. Longenecker, Neillsville, officiated at the rites and burial took place in the Greenwood Cemetery. The Greenwood Masonic order participated in the rites and took charge of the burial.

Mr. Bishop was born on Feb. 22, 1861, and spent the early years of his life in Ill. And Iowa, coming to Necedah in the spring of 1879. He was married to Ella A. Allds and they lived in Necedah, where he conducted a photograph business and did cabinet and carpenter work during the next five years.

In 1887 they moved to Marshfield, where Mr. Bishop assisted in rebuilding the city after its disastrous fire. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, with their daughter, Mabel, moved to Greenwood in 1892, and Mr. Bishop conducted a furniture and undertaking business there until his death. Mrs. Bishop died on Jan. 27, 1928.

Relatives at the funeral include C. O. Bishop, Orient, Iowa Ralph Bishop and Dr. Hal L. Allds, Chicago Mrs. George Allds and Ellis Allds, Wausau Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Rifleman, Mrs. Grover Danfield and son, and Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, Rhinelander Frank Allds, Lloyd Allds, and Mrs. La Dorna Nate, Camp Douglas, and Walter Doerr, Hillsboro.

In the original account of Mr. Bishop's death the News-Herald erroneously stated that he died while transporting a body to a funeral. The account was mistaken in that Mr. Bishop was on his way to Withee to bring a body to Greenwood when he was stricken. The News-Herald deeply regrets the error.
