RITES HELD FOR AREA RESIDENT

GEORGE GEMMEKE IS DEAD AT AGE OF 82


Greenwood--Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Grace Methodist Church for George Gemmeke, 82, Greenwood, Clark County, who died Friday, June 5, 1959 in Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, where he had been a patient two days following a stroke. The Rev. Ethel Nulton officiated and burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Fred Clintsman, Harry Stafford, Harold Dillenbeck, Clark Hatton, Orville Dimler and Mike Podobnik Sr.


"Ivory Palaces" and "Sweet Bye and Bye" were sung by JoAnne Peterson and Mary Syth, Mrs. William Olson was the pianist.


Mr. Gemmeke was born Oct. 20, 1876 at Davenport, Ind., the son of George and Elise (Toelle) Davenport. At the age of one he came to Clark County with his parent to a farm 6 miles south of Greenwood.


He married the former Velma Bostwick at Greenwood March 8, 1911. She preceded him in death June 6, 1954. He had been in poor health for a year and since December had resided at Thorp with his daughter.


He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Emory (Iola) Starks, Thorp by one son, Kenneth Gemmeke, Chicago, Ill., five grandchildren two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Christenson, Moscow, Idaho, and Mrs. Minnie Smyth, Spokane, Wash. and three brothers, Henry, Mexico, Mo. Paul, Spokane, Wash, and Alfred, Angle Inlet, Minn.
