Matkovich, Martin (1886 - 1962)


GREENWOOD
--Martin Matkovich, 76, Willard, Clark County, died of a heart attack Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock at his home. He had been ill with a heart condition for three years.


Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood and at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. The Rev. Sylvester Mirko will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery.


Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 4 p.m. today. The general rosary will be held at 8 o'clock tonight.


Mr. Matkovich was born Aug. 30, 1886, in Yugoslavia and came to the United States in 1905, and lived in Ely and Virginia, Minn. He was married in Virginia, Minn., on Aug. 17, 1908, to Theresa Kocyan. They moved to Marion, Va., and in 1914 the couple came to Willard and resided on a farm. He retired from farming in May of 1946 and lived in the village of Willard since. At one time, he served as clerk in the town of Hendren and was also a member of the school board there. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.


He is survived by his wife three daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Ann) Urana, Milwaukee Mrs. Samuel (Eelia) Bertrand, Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Leonard (Marie) Rauen, Burlington three sons, Louis, Willard John, Bellevue, Wash., and Martin Jr., Milwaukee 10 grandchildren three great-grandchildren three brothers, John Matkovich, Virginia, Minn., and Frank and Pete Matkovich, Milwaukee.


A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
