Keiner, Henry Christ (1898 - 1962)


GREENWOOD--Henry C. Keiner, 63, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, March 20, 1962, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield, where he was admitted Monday afternoon. He had been ill for the past year.


Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, March 23, in the Zion United Church of Christ. Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.


The body reposed at the Hill Funeral Home from Thursday afternoon until 11 a.m. Friday.


Mr. Keiner was born July 16, 1898 at Athens. He was married Oct. 28, 1928 at Winona, Minn., to the former Elizabeth Oberberger Becker. He was educated in the Athens schools and later was employed in his father's meat market in Athens.


In 1922, the family came to Greenwood, where he was in partnership with his father and brother in the C. Keiner and Sons Market. From 1928-1945 he operated the market alone. For the past 14 years, he had owned and operated the Keiner's Resort at Rock Dam. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.


Surviving are his wife his mother, Mrs. Christ Keiner four sisters, Miss Louis Keiner and Mrs. Hugh (Freda) Severson, all of Greenwood Mrs. Martha Corbin, Milwaukee and Mrs. Frederick (Edith) Gotz, Pittsville, and a brother, Carl Keiner, Eau Claire.


His father, Christ Keiner died May 25, 1946.

Research Notes

 

Henry Keiner belonged to the prestigious Greenwood Commercial Club and served as one of its directors.  He was also present for the Banquet held in honor of the unveiling of the Peace Monument given to the city by Ernest Durig in 1937.
