Johnson, Gunhild (1869 - 1951)


GREENWOOD--Mrs. P. C. Johnson, 82, Greenwood, Clark County, died about 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, 1951, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Herbert Schendel, about 5 miles sourth of here. Death was attributed to old age complications.


Tentative funeral arrangements have been set for Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Schiller Funeral Home and for 2 o'clock at United Lutheran Church.


The Rev. Theodore Nelson will officiate and burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home until the time of services.


Mrs. Johnson, nee Gunhild Monsos, was born March 14, 1869, in Norway. She came to America at the age of 16 and settled in Black River Falls. She married Peter C. Johnson on March 4, 1889, and lived for a few years in Black River Falls. Later they moved to Longwood and then to a farm about 4 miles northeast of Greenwood, where they lived for 30 years.


On March 4, 1939, she and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Johnson died March 9, 1940.


Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Morris (Julia) Anderson, Stevens Point Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Johnson, Greenwood, and Mrs. George (Nola) Kuehl, Madison, and one son, Paul, who lives on the family farm in Greenwood. One daughter, Mrs. Cora Vangsness, preceded her in death. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
