Shanks, Hattie May (1873 - 1959)


GREENWOOD--Mrs. Albert Shanks, 85, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, Clark County, died Sunday morning, Aug. 23, 1959, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield, where she had been admitted Aug. 13 for eye surgery. She had been ill since April.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grace Methodist Church with the Rev. Ethel Nulton officiating. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.


The body will repose at the Hill Funeral Home beginning Tuesday afternoon.


The former Hattie May Andrews was born in Greenwood Aug. 25, 1873. Prior to her marriage she taught school in the Greenwood area. She married Albert Shanks on April 26, 1899, at Greenwood. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949. Mr. Shanks, a former mayor of Greenwood, died May 3, 1949.


She was a member of Grace Methodist Church.


The survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Schneider, Enid, Okla. five grandchildren a a brother, William Andrews, Owen.
