Mayor Edwin Buker in 1937 (left). This bust was created in 1937 by Ernst Durig, Swiss sculptor for whom many world figures posed. This same artist fashioned a Peace Memorial which even today stands just outside the Greenwood City Hall where Ed Buker served as Mayor.

GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY
Edward Buker, 84, former Greenwood Mayor and alderman, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1954 at his home. He had been in poor health for several months.
The body will repose at the Buker home from Thursday noon until Friday noon, when it will be taken to Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. The Rev. Charles Koch will officiate and burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Buker was born May 14, 1869 in Sheboygan County and came to Greenwood at the age of 4 years with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buker. He made his home here since and was engaged in logging and lumber business.
Mr. Buker was mayor of Greenwood from 1914-1918 and again from 1928-1940, and was an alderman for a number of years. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Arthur, Greenwood a sister, Mrs. Henry Decker, Greenwood, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Orlando, a daughter, two brothers, Fred and George, and a sister, Mrs. John Steiger, preceded him in death.

Edwin Buker belonged to the prestigious
Greenwood Commercial Club and was present for the
Banquet held in honor of the unveiling of the
Peace Monument given to the city by Ernest Durig in 1937. He was also
one of the area residents who had a bust made by the artist (above right).
