Fensome, Alice (1907 - 1991)


Services for Alice Fensom, 84, formerly of the Loyal area, who died Wednesday, April 17, 1991, at Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 1991, at the Free Methodist Church, Loyal. Rev. Charles Peters officiated and burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Curt Mrotek, Brett Bushman, Bernard Clouse, Everett Kauffman, Howard Jennings and Dennis Larson.


Alice Fensome was born Jan. 5, 1907, in Walworth County, to Walter and Emily (nee Bishner) Fensome. She was a 1924 graduate of Chetek High School. She then attended Normal School in Whitewater, Wessington Springs College and Phoenix Junior College and was a graduate of Seattle Pacific College.. Prior to World War II, she was a missionary in the Pacific Coast Japanese Conference. She then enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and served from Sept. 1, 1942 to Dec. 1, 1945. She was employed as a Japanese translator by the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. She then served in Japan as a missionary-teacher and evangelist from 1948 - 1962. She later served the WMS and Free Methodist Church as editor of Missionary Tidings until retiring Jan. 1, 1975. She continued as assistant to the new editor. She moved to Loyal to live in retirement in the early 1980's.


She is survived by nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her parents, one infant brother and one other brother, Herbert, and one sister, Ethel.
