Perko, Edward A. (1912 - 2001)


Edward A. Perko Sr., 89, Willard, Clark County, died on Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Neillsville Memorial Medical Center. Funeral services were held on July 2, 2001, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in the Holy Family Parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Val Krainz, Gene Darrow, Tom Banaczak, Wayne Wegner, Jim Schreiner and Eddie Perko.


Edward Alan Perko was born on June 24, 1912, in Willard, to Joseph and Mary (nee Hocevar) Perko. He attended Gorman Grade School in the Willard area. In 1942, he entered the United States Army and served in World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he married Elsie Zager in Willard on Nov. 15, 1947. He bought a general store in Willard from his brother, Charles, and owned and operated the store and feed mill for 29 years. He retired on July 1, 1972, and moved to a small hobby farm south of Willard. He enjoyed farming and gardening there until entering the nursing home in January. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Slovenian Club of Willard, and the Greenwood American Legion Post 238.


Survivors include two sons, Edward Bing (Diane) Perko Jr., Willard, and James (Shari) Perko, Eau Claire one step-granddaughter, Shannon and two brothers, Louis (Betty) Perko, Neillsville, and Albert (Margaret), Redmond, Wash.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, in April 1986 his parents four brothers, Felix, Charles, Fred and Joseph and three sisters, Olga Zimmerman, Mary Landini and Annie Perko.


Cuddie funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
