Karlen, Wilton D. (1928 - 1981)


Wilton D. Karlen, 52, of Route 1, Owen, Clark County, died at about 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 1981, at his home in the Town of Longwood.


Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Rev. Samuel Kochel officiated and burial took place in Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Longwood. Military rites were conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Posts of Greenwood and Owen. Maurina Funeral Home in Owen was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Karlen was born April 23, 1928, in Stanley. He farmed near Stanley from 1950 - 1958 and since 1958 had farmed in the Town of Longwood. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict from 1954 - 1956.


He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longwood. He married Bernelda Noah on June 6, 1953, in Greenwood.


Surviving him are his wife three sons, Michael of Willard, and Jeffrey and Timothy, at home one daughter, Kristily, at home one brother, Clyde Karlen of Cadott three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Valva) Sabo of Perry, Ohio, Mrs. Wallace (Betty) Nelson of Eau Claire and Mrs. Nick (Eugenia) Voytovich of Minneapolis and two grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Angeline Karlen, and his step-mother, Anna Bye Karlen.


Honorary pallbearers were Charles Pribbernow, Hub, Missling, Larry Przybyiski, Robert Gill, Dennis Wendt and Clarence Dumke. Pallbearers were John Karlen, Jim Voytovich, Don Nelson, Val Hoffmann, Tom Noah and Louie Fortuna.
