Behrens, Edwin A. (1906 - 1981)


 

Edwin Alexander Behrens, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1981, at Myrtle Worth Medical Center in Menomonie. Mr. Behrens, the second oldest in a family of thirteen children, was born in Greenwood, Clark County, on Feb. 19, 1906, to Alex and Agnes (Haglund) Behrens. On July 5, 1934, he married Violet Ann Malen at Greenwood.


He attended Hemlock and Greenwood Public Schools and farmed for many years in Longwood Township, Clark County, before moving to Illinois in 1959, where he owned a restaurant in Lemont. After retiring, the Behrens moved to Menomonie where they have resided since 1972.


Mr. Behrens is survived by his wife a daughter, Judith A. Maxwell Ithaca, N.Y. two sons, Edwin L. Behrens, McLean, Va. (Washington, D.C.) and David H. Behrens of Eau Claire and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by six sisters, Irma Hertzog, Derry, La. Lillian Redgren and Lucille Schmit of Menomonie Mildred Eisenhart, Kennsington, Maryland (Washington, D.C.) Eileen Batenberg, Flossmoor, Ill. and Edith Warner, Chetek and four brothers, Louis, Greenwood Karl, Sandy, Utah Neil, Miami, Fla. And William Terrence, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, Lee, and a sister, Adeline Jackson.


Mr. Behrens died of a stroke suffered on Sunday, Aug. 23.


Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Burial followed in the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.


Individuals interested in a memorial contribution are requested to forward their donations to the Myrtle Worth Medical Center, the American Cancer Society or the Lion's Eye Fund.


Serving as pallbearers were Herbert Missling, Francis Herr, Sr., Gerald Steffen, Gordon Worden, Dick Warner and Joseph Herr. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin Alex Behrens in mid 1920's, from his several falls working in ND Wheat Field days helping his Mom, Agnus Behrens support the other younger family members at home on family farm in Hemlock Township.  Dave Behrens.
