Robert Benjamin Gelander, 83, Neillsville, Clark County, died Monday, May 22, 1995, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Pastor Tim Biebert will officiate.


Robert Benjamin Gelander was born on June 29, 1911, in Oregon, Ill., to Aben Anthony and Gladys Mae (nee Swartz) Gelander. He attended Illinois schools. He moved to Chicago in 1929, where he was employed by Standard Oil Co. as manager of a station in Chicago.. He married Dorothy Elizabeth Churchhill on May 27, 1938, in Oregon, Ill. Their Golden Wedding anniversary was celebrated on May 29, 1988. She survives. He was employed for various companies until Sept. 1945, when he started a business known as G H Tool Company in the garage of his home. In 1966, the business incorporated. After selling the business, they retired in 1973 and lived on a farm in Willard. He was a member of the Loves Park Lodge 1145 A.F. A.M., life member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Freeport, Ill., life member of Tebala Shrine Temple, Rockford, Ill. permanent contributor to the Shrine Children's Hospital member of Crusader Commandery 17 K.T., Rockford member of Winnebago Chapter 24, Royal Arch Masons, Rockford member of Slovenska Druzba, Willard. He was a past member of the following clubs: Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years, charter member of Loves Park Lions Club Loyal order of Moose, member of Hi 12, and also a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Loves Park, Ill.


Survivors include his wife of Willard two sons, Jim (Reita) Gelander, Willard Anthony Gelander, Loves Park, Ill. one daughter, Mrs. Judy (Ronald C.) Jones, Neillsville 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents one brother, Harvey one sister, Ada Kearney and one son, Robert Michael Gelander.


Memorial may be given in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
