Freedlund, Norman C. (1910 - 1983)

 

Norman C. Freedlund, 72, 2304 Highway Z, Pittsville, a veteran member of the Clark County Board of Supervisors, died at 7 a.m., Sunday, May 8, 1983, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. He had been ill for several weeks.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Freedlund were at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 1983, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Town of Sherwood. Officiating was Rev. E.T. Keller. Interment was in the Town of Sherwood Cemetery.

 

Mr. Freedlund was born on Nov. 5, 1910, in the Town of Sherwood, to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Martha Schwanebeck) Freedlund. He received his education in the Town of Dewhurst.

 

On June 10, 1933, he and Donna Davis were married. In 1934, he purchased a farm in the Town of Sherwood, which was his present home.

 

He served as treasurer of the Birdland Echo School was a member of the Clark County ASC Committee for 14 years was elected township supervisor in April 1943 and hled the office for five and one-half years served as town chairman for 26 and one-half years was vice-president of the Neillsville Ambulance Service from its beginning until Jan. 1983 and was a member of the Clark County Board of Supervisors for a record 34 and one-half years.

 

He had previously served on numerous County Board committees and at the time of his death was a member of Committee on Committees Health and Social Service Committee Clark County Health Care Center and Memorial Hospital Committee and the Clark County Health Care Center Building Committee. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the Solid Waste Committee, chairman of the Planning and Zoning and Farmland Preservation Committee of the Outdoor Recreation Committee and of the Forestry and Parks Planning and Lands Committee. He had served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Wis. Forests Association.

 

He owned and operated a mason contracting business for 25 years and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

 

Surviving are nine children, Mahlon of Milwaukee, James of Vesper, Ronald, David, Wanda and Lowell, all of Pittsville, Dale of Tulsa, Okla., Marlene of Wis. Rapids and Mrs. Arlen (Harriet) Castner of Marshfield two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (June) Lindberg and Mrs. Louis (Doris) Long, both of Rockford, Ill. four brothers, Iver of Winnebago, Ill., Chester, Leonard and Lawrence, all of Pittsville eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

He was predeceased by his wife on June 24, 1978, and a son, Walter.

 

Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, was in charge of arrangements.
