Craigen, John ( - 1881)


A man named John Craigen was instantly killed in one of Washburn's (Clark County) up-river camps last Tuesday morning. He was engaged in sawing down timber and was struck in the chest by the butt of a tree, which slid back across the stump as it was falling, the depth of the snow preventing him from getting out of the way. The remains were properly dressed under the direction of the foreman, Mr. P. B. Tolford, of this place, and sent here for burial, in case his friends and former place of residence could not be ascertained, nothing having been known of the man by those with whom he had worked during the winter except his name.

The deceased, from all that has yet been learned, has no relatives living anywhere in this locality, as sister living at Galena, Ill., and a brother at Leadville, D.T. being the only ones known. The remains were deposited in the cemetery at this place last Wednesday.
