Bloom, Lester R. (8 JAN 1923 - 17 OCT 2001)


Lester R. Bloom, 78, Loyal, Clark County, died at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. The Rev. Daniel E. Zimmerman officiated. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Vater, Pete Pfundtner, Bob Tesch, Dan Bloom, Matt Bloom and John Bloom.

Lester Ray Bloom was born on Jan. 8, 1923, in the town of Beaver, to Henry and Elise (nee Brechbuhl) Bloom. He was raised on the family farm and educated at Beaver Center School. When he was 16 years old, his father died, and he and his brother took over farming the family farm for his mother. His brother, Glen, bought the farm after he was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 25, 1945. After his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1946, he moved back to Loyal and worked as a mechanic at the Pine Grove Cheese Factory. He married Zada Marie Cain on Oct. 30, 1948, at her parents home in the town of Beaver. He purchased a milk route soon after his marriage and in 1952, bought a farm north of Loyal. He continued hauling milk until 1957, when he sold the route. In 1964, he began driving school bus, and did so for 23 years. He continued to farm until the summer of 2001. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Loyal American Legion. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed reading, repairing things, telling stories, children and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Zada, Loyal one son, David (Karen) Bloom, Loyal two daughters, Debbie Bloom, Wheaton, Ill., Cindy (Mike) Bloom-Cronin, Trenton, N.J. three grandchildren four step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren two brothers, Glen (Agnes) Bloom, Loyal, and Clifford (Hisiko) Bloom, Beijing, China two sisters, Inez Ockerhauser, Marshfield, and Esther Schulze, Neenah.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one brother, Leo Bloom.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
