EARL D. RAAB


Earl D. Raab, 76, formerly of Loyal, Clark County, died Saturday, June 15, 1996 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June, 24 at Loyal Methodist Church. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Loyal City Cemetery with military rites conducted by Loyal American Legion Post 175. A service with full military honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. On July 3, 1996 at 1 p.m.


Earl D. Raab was born Feb. 16, 1920 in Loyal to Jesse and Vivian (nee Shupe) Raab. He received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School, and Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point. He married Geraldine Mittelstadt in Rockford, Ill. on March 8, 1952. He served in the Pacific in WW II and went on to head U.S. Army Medical Department Procurement Operations both in the U.S. and overseas. He retired in 1970 as colonel in the U.S. Army after 30 years of military service. He pursued a second career as assisting marketing and sales efforts of private health care companies to key federal health care agencies. At the same time, he began his own cheese business, supplying Wisconsin cheese to resident in Washington D.C. and surrounding areas. He was an active member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge and Free Accepted Masons.


Survivors include his daughter, Frances K. (Robin) Shafe, Burlington two grandchildren, Peter and Jessica Shafe, Burlington a sister, Evelyn (Harland) Bergemann, Greenwood and one brother, Leland (Lois) Raab, Appleton.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
