Saupe, Mary J. (JUL 1859 - 29 MAR 1892)

Mrs. Mary J. Saupe, wife of Julius C. Saupe, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Clark, died yesterday afternoon at a quarter before six o'clock at the residence of her father in this city. She has been ill about six week's and more than half the time so low that the faint hope at each sign of apparent gain alternated with still deeper despair as she steadily sank away to the last bitter hour. The day before her death there was such a cheering report of change for the better, that to those not near her dying bed, this announcement will bring an added pang of grief.

Mrs. Saupe was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Clark. She was born in La Crosse in July 1859, and this city has been her home continuously except a brie residence in Neillsville, Clark County. Before marriage she was for some time a teacher in the public schools, always successful by reason of her kind and wise methods, intelligent and lovable disposition. For many years she has been a member of the Congregational Church, an active and efficient worker in the various societies where she will be very much missed.

The husband and daughter, parents and brothers have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

The foregoing from the La Crosse Chronicle of yesterday will be sad news to the many friends of Mrs. Saupe, whose residence in our city had endeared her to all with whom she had become acquainted.

Mr. Joseph Morley and wife, the latter a sister of Mrs. Saupe, are now at La Crosse, called there by the sad event.
