Owen, Margaret (7 AUG 1811 - 11 JUN 1892)

Margaret Owen, wife of Rev. T. G. Owen, pastor of the Unitarian Church of this city (Neillsville, Clark County), died at her home Saturday, June 11, 1892.

Deceased was born at Westmoreland, England, Aug. 7, 1811. Her maiden name was Cragg. When married to Mr. Owen her home was in Brooklyn, N.Y. Two sisters survive her, residing in that city. Some of her early years were spent in Manchester and London.

Since Mrs. Owen came to reside in Neillsville, about two years ago, she has endeared herself to a large cicle of friends by her gentleness, kindness and quiet religious life. She was free from pride and ostentation, and was a good wife and fond mother. It is doubted whether any one of her acquaintances could suggest a fault in her character.

Her religion was not a belief in creed or dogma, but a sweet and virtuous life, with perfect trust in a Heavenly Father, who ruleth all thing well, and into whose loving arms she expected to be received when this mortal should put on immortality.

The funeral services were held in this city last Monday, Rev. F. C. Davis, of Winona, officiating. The sermon was listened to with marked attention and was the subject of much favorable comment. The preacher presented the doctrine of the immortality of the soul with strong arguments and apt and convincing illustrations.

The burial took place in Trempealeau. J. W. Tolford and Miss Gertie Schuster accompanied Mr. Owen and his daughters, Miss Hallie and Eunice to that place.
