Thompson, Phillip E. (8 MAR 1940 - 13 APR 2002)

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Phillip E. Thompson, 62, Rockford, Ill., died at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Swedish-American Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 827 16th St., Rockford with the Rev. Robert H. Rub Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fred C. Olson Funeral Chapels, Ltd., North Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., Rockford, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born March 8, 1940, in Neillsville, the son of Forest and Isabelle Skaar Thompson. A Rockford resident since August of 1958, he graduated from Neillsville High School in 1958. He married Dianne M. Hoffman on Dec. 15, 1962. Phillip served with the U.S. Navy from June 1964 through July 12, 1965. He worked at J. I. Case Company and joined the Rockford Police Department as a cadet in 1969 and the full force in August 1965. He retired June 1991. He then worked at Bank One as a security guard until June 1996 and at Per-Mar Security until his illness. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was an Elder and Chairman of the Elders for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Thompson of Rockford sons Jeffrey (Patricia) and Jonathan Thompson, all of Rockford and Jason Thompson of N. I. U., DeKalb, Ill. his mother, Isabelle Thompson, sisters, Dorothy Bertz, Carol Ayers and Marie (Ronnie) Henning, brothers Norman (Ann) and Glenn Thompson and mother-in-law, Nelda Hoffman, all of Neillsville many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, aunts and uncles.

Predeceased by his father, a brother Charles, a brother in infancy and father-in-law, Carl Hoffman.
