Jones, Lodoiska Butler (25 MAY 1815 - AUG 1893)

Lodoiska Butler Jones, Widow of Thomas P. Jones, late of Knowlesville, N.Y., and mother of W. Martin Jones of this city, died last night at the home of her son, 87 South Union St. in her 80th year. She was born at Crown Point, N.Y. May 25, 1815, was a granddaughter of Col. Butler of revolutionary fame, and a near relative of the late Benjamin F. Butler of Massachusetts. Mrs. Jones had lived in the village of Knowlesville for many years, until the death of her husband in '86. Since then she has passed most of her time with her children, returning to the old home, always waiting for her and which she would neither sell or rent, to spend a month or two each summer with old acquaintances.

While there last year with a granddaughter she contracted a severe cold, resulting in pneumonia. She recovered from that attack and was brought to her home in Rochester in October last, but never quite regained her former robust strength. She was a woman of strong personality and marked ability. When over 60 years of age she resolved to learn the German language, and without a teacher, taught herself to read, write and speak it. Many friends near and far will learn with sorrow of her death. She leaves four son, John B. Jones of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. Thomas P. Jones of Detroit, W. Martin Jones of this city, and Ira B Jones, formerly of Rochester, but now residing in Detroit. The funeral services will be held at the house Wednesday morning at 20 o'clock. ( Rochester, N.Y. Union and Advertiser)
