Krasselt, James W. Sr. (20 DEC 1931 - 5 JUN 2002)


SPENCER - James Wendel Krasselt Sr., 70, of Spencer, died after a courageous battle with cancer on June 5, 2002, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Karl Rose officiating.

Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Devin, Derek, Jon II, Joseph, James III, Jameson and Zachary Krasselt and Benjamin Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Nicole and Kacey Krasselt, Whitney and Kyleigh Hebert, Sara and Samantha Griesbach, Tracey Meixner and Lisa Schiling.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Community Funeral Home in Spencer and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

Mr. Krasselt was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Clark County to George and Ruth (nee Vine) Krasselt. He married Janice Hopfensperger on Nov. 10, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past year.

He attended Veefkind Grade School and Loyal High School. He served in the United States Air Force, receiving an early honorable discharge upon the death of his father. He returned home to care for his mother and three younger brothers and the farm. He farmed and did custom farm work. He was a service technician for 25 years for Sears. He then started his own business, J J Products and Service. He also served as the licensed assessor for Sherman Township. He was co-owner of The Plan-It Earth Health Stores, was a bartender and assistant manager of My Brother's Place in Spencer. James also served on the Veefkind School Board, was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, and served on the cemetery board.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Krasselt his children, Jon (Vicki) Krasselt, James Jr. (Rita) Krasselt, Jodi (Jeff) Hebert and Jay Krasselt, all of Spencer Jeanne (James) Griesbach of Stratford his 16 grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters, Kali and Kira. He is further survived by his brothers, George II (Helen) Krasselt of Roaring Beach, Pa., and Dale (Karen) Krasselt of Chili.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roger and Gary Krasselt.

Jim took great pride in his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He enjoyed playing cards, being with people and a good joke. He will be lovingly remembered as "The Boss" because of his love of children.

A memorial will be established to help the Spencer Youth.
