Wicker, James D. (4 MAY 1834 - 7 FEB 1897)

James D. Wicker died of heart disease, Feb. 7, 1897, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.F. Grove, in Neillsville, Clark County.

Mr. Wicker was born in New York, May 4, 1834, and in 1856 came to Wisconsin. After about a year's residence in this state he returned to New York, residing in New York city, Williamsburg and Tarrytown. In 1856 he was married to Adelaide A. Ives, who, with four children, survives him. This family moved to Independence, Iowa in 1872, and the next year they came to Wisconsin and settled in the town of Hull, near Colby. In 1882, the family moved to Colby, where they have since resided. When Mr. Wicker was taken sick several weeks ago, he was brought over from Colby to this city, where he could receive prompt medical treatment, which was supposed to be required to make him well, but it seems the grim destroyer of all humanity had placed its icy fingers upon him from the beginning.

Mr. Wicker was a prominent citizen of Colby, and was city clerk and justice of the peace at the time of his death. He was also a prominent member of the Odd Fellows fraternity, having belonged to that organization upwards of forty years.

The deceased was taken from this city to Colby, Monday, where the remains were buried, Rev. Chas. Barker, of Milwaukee, preaching the funeral sermon. The Odd Fellows also held their burial services over their deceased member, a large number of the fraternity from Thorp, Unity and other neighboring towns being present.
