Last Saturday night while assisting in making up a train in the railroad yards at Marshfield, Richard Boone was almost instantly killed by being run over by a freight car. He was standing between two tracks on on of which the car was to be "kicked." For some reason the switch was not turned and the car came along the other track. Whether he accidentally stepped back upon the track, or seeing that the car was going wrong, he attempted to prevent its automatic coupling with other cars on the track and fell beneath the car is not positively known. The station agent, who was with him, noticed the accident almost the instant after it occurred. His body was tightly wedged in front of and under the wheel. When removed he was still living, but died within a few minutes. His remains were brought to Neillsville Sunday, where his mother resides. His home was in Altoona.

Richard Boone was born in Somerset County, Maine, June 6th, 1868 was youngest son of Richard Boone and Jane Boone. Came to Clark County with parents when seven months old lived on farm two miles west of Neillsville for years. Has been braking on C St. P.M. O railway about 7 years, a good share of the time on Marshfield branch, and was promoted to position of conductor only a few months. He was married to Miss Mabel Robbins about 7 years ago. For past six months has been living at Altoona. He leaves a wife and daughter, mother, three brothers and six sisters. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, several of whom were present from Altoona and Elroy, his pallbearers being railroad men. He was well liked by all and highly spoken of as an efficient and careful railroader.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 o'clock p.m., at the Presbyterian Church in this city, Rev. G. W. Luther officiating. The funeral was under the auspices of the Brotherhood of which he was a member.
